Be a big kid with Karl Spain at the Electric Picnic Playground from Electric Ireland

It’s not often I get to type Electric that often. I interviewed Karl Spain today about the ESB Electric Ireland Playground for Grown-Ups at Electric Picnic. It sounds like fun.
A playground for grown ups? Seesaws, giant hamster wheels and merry-go-rounds apparently…!

I asked Karl about his touring with Ed Byrne, his future TV plans and his upcoming dates in Ireland – and for more details on the Electric Picnic energy-efficient playground for grown-ups …
“… where festival goers can play and use the energy they generate to charge their phones – energy efficiency has never been so much fun!
The playground in ESB Electric Ireland Park is sure to be a favourite with big kids. From the adult sized merry-go-round to the giant hamster wheel and see-saw, every part of the playground generates energy that people can share and use. Fifteen bikes will be positioned in the Park to give even more opportunity for people to use their energy for the greater good.”

There’ll also be comedians on hand to make things interesting…
A number of celebrity MCs including Irish and international comedians Karl Spain, Andrew Stanley, Damian Clark and Gearoid Farrelly will be on hand to recruit festival goers to make use of the playground and also to find volunteers to get on their bikes!
The MCs will host a number of small challenges throughout the weekend and may even take part in some of these challenges themselves.

And there’s some corporate information as well:
ESB Electric Ireland is providing 6 km of energy efficient festoon lighting around the camp sites and walk ways to the main arena, which has reduced the festival’s lighting emissions by 80%. In addition, the ESB e-cars will be used to transport artists around the festival site this year, keeping sustainability at the heart of the Electric Picnic.
ESB Electric Ireland will be announcing additional details and competitions over the next few days so check out their Facebook page. They’re also running a competition for tickets over on Boards.ie

Thanks to Karl for his time and to Kate in WHPR for the opportunity. Pics by Robbie Reynolds. More to follow!
