Get ready for the Dublin Zombie Walk 2011

This Saturday, July 23, Dublin will be invaded by zombies. ZOMBIES! Don’t worry though, it’s a charity walk in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and the RNLI.

Over 12,000 people have signed up to the Facebook event for the Dublin Zombie Walk - a charity event about having fun, dressing up, walking, shuffling, moaning through the streets of Dublin, beginning at the Leeson Street Entrance of St Stephen’s Green at 2pm. The walk ends in Temple Bar at the Button Factory.

There are lots of makeup artists on the day so you don’t have to get zombified at home, though judging by these photos on Facebook, it mightn’t be a bad idea to follow Serpent Studios and Sara Kelly of Cosmaddict Makeup to see what they do.

If being a zombie is not your thing, you can also sign up to be a photographer or videographer, a steward, a make-up artist or a collector. For the most part though, it’s just a matter of you showing up, zombifying and shuffling the route. There’s a full list of FAQ here – I particularly like

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, they make for tasty zombie snacks, you can even bring the dog!

There’s also a Gorelesque after party in the Button Factory starting at 5pm “with stalls, cakes, face painters, fire breathers, jugglers, stilt walkers, dancers, badges, tshirts and a whole load of zombie surprises!”

Performers include Azaria Starfire, Big Chief Random Chaos, Lilly DeValle, Lucy RhineHart, Arlene Caffery (Irish Pole Dancing Champion), Tom Riddle, Trixie Belle and performances by Sedition Industries performers ‘The Sedettes! while the Guest of Honour and Grand Marshall is Miss Sami Long.
