Hang On and Catch Me double bill
I had never even heard of aerial dance theatre until I was invited to go see Fidget Feet perform their ‘Hang On & Catch Me’ double bill in Draíocht in Blanchardstown. ‘Hang On & Catch Me’ is an exciting and exhilarating double bill of spectacular aerial dance, acting and theatre.
Catch Me was on first, a take on Red Riding Hood lost in the forest and meeting the Big, Bad Wolf. This dance piece was filled with enchantment, wonder, impatience, violence, beauty, gentle comedy and an ultimate battle between girl and wolf. Not your average fairytale. The ropes as trees and the movements of both wolf and girl together as he vacillated between inquisitive, gentle, violent and careless were astounding. I was glued to the story and wished it was longer.
Hang On was on after the interval, a tale of a “business suited struggle between the sexes”. It was a search for love between two people, unsure of each other, not ready for each other.
Hang On examines the subtle social and personal struggles that can occur between two individual people as they learn to love one another. Sometimes it is a battle, sometimes it is a dance, but in the end, when we get it right, it can be life at it’s most beautiful.
