Dance on air at the Irish Aerial Dance Fest 2011

Fidget Feet, one of Ireland’s best (if not the only!) aerial dance troupe along with An Grianán Theatre and Donegal County Council have organised the second ever Irish Aerial Dance Fest 2011. I saw them recently in Draíocht in Blanchardstown performing a double bill of Hang On and Catch Me – the review is here. The Irish Aerial Dance Fest begins today in Letterkenny and will run for almost two weeks, 6th – 12th June.

The festival will include performances, workshops, masterclasses and drop-in classes. Classes include some for beginners to learn the joy of literally dancing on air. There will also be advanced classes for aerial dancers, circus aerialists and anyone else who has previous experience of aerial dancing. Classes will be given by a range of aerial dancing experts from around the world including Chantal of Fidget Feet.

Fidget Feet’s Irish Aerial Dance Fest is a collaborative event between three extremely successful aerial dance companies who have combined forces to creat the European Aerial Dance Project. The EADP aims to offer a series of events to share, promote and raise the profile of aerial dance. Drapés Aériens will host Les Rencontres de Danse aerienne in La Baule, France from Sun 3rd – Fri 15th July (www.lesrencontresdedanseaerienne.com). Gravity & Levity will host the EADF in Brighton, UK from Sat 13th – Wed 17th August (www.gravity-levity.net).

To find out more about the classes scheduled, availability and the cost involved, please check the Fidget Feet website or their Facebook page.
