The Gorgeous Colours – free download and single launch
It’s Ok To Be Normal by The Gorgeous Colours
I’m happy to give The Gorgeous Colours a plug. They did a successful crowd funding project last year that caught my attention and I like the music I’ve heard – especially Animal.
I’ve just been sent a press release (thanks Michelle) with their new single “It’s OK to be Normal“, a free download they’ll be giving away this month.
They’re releasing the single with a gig in Dublin’s Workmans Club on Thursday, May 12, supported by Cork’s Slow Motion Heroes.
You can RSVP on Facebook here. Doors are at 8pm – admission is €10/€8 students.
The single will be available to download free from midnight on the 12th over on their Bandcamp page.
From the press release:
The Gorgeous Colours’ critically-acclaimed The Creatures Down Below EP was funded by fans through an online pledge campaign, and the video for the title track won the Viewer’s Choice Award for best video at the 2010 IMTV awards.
Some praise for The Creatures Down Below EP:
“Certainly the best thing I’ve ever heard from the band…the older and wiser sound variably calls to mind bands like Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes…a (gentle) belter” - Nialler9
“Accomplished arrangements, and blissful four part harmonies that ooze pure sunshine….a perfect package of feel good, danceable and all round lovely, gorgeous even, sounds” - State.ie
“A fantastic Irish 5 piece who released the best EP I heard last year, The Creatures Down Below. Four songs that would stand out on any album and a contender for video of the year with the title track from that EP” - MusicPup Ireland
“Close to the premier piece of Irish pop I’ve heard all year…there’s probably no end to this band’s talent, so strap yourself in for lots of future treats” - mp3Hugger
“One of the most underrated bands in Ireland…four tracks that deserve to be heard. No gimmicks, no trying to be the newest sound around, The Gorgeous Colours make beautiful music that urges you to listen again.” - The Point of Everything
“You’ll want to listen over and over…The Gorgeous Colours are growing into a band that we could all easily fall in love with.” - Tell That Cat to Chill
“one of the best pop songs to emerge from this country in the last twelve months or so…A triumph for the band and a reason to be excited about any future releases.” - Drop-D
