‘Girls Night The Musical’ at the Gaiety Theatre
Girls Night The Musical opened in the Gaiety Theatre last week on 11th April to an excited audience of music lovers. Following the lives of five friends, one of them deceased and looking down on the others as they celebrate the upcoming wedding of one of their daughters.
As they drink, fight, laugh, reminisce and confide in each other on this one night out, they also dance to the tunes of the club and sing some karaoke. Treating us to some great sing along tunes like Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton and Sister Sledge’s We Are Family, it is hard to stay still in your seat for very long.
The entire show is packed full of comic energy and the all female cast of five were fantastic, particularly Hilda Fay and Sorcha Furlong. Lorraine Keane of TV3 was also a genuine surprise playing a character I can only imagine was somewhat inspired by Patsy Stone in ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ (and not just because of her beehive hair!) and she played her faaabulously! She has a great singing voice too as did all of the girls. Sharon Sexton deserves a special mention, she was comedy gold as the uptight and very dull Kate.
If you have a bunch of girlfriends, I recommend rounding them up, buying some tickets and getting down to Girls Night The Musical for a night of female laughter, tears, singing and dancing before the show ends on Saturday 21st April 2012!
